Date – Saturday, October 18 from 9 am to noon (rain date Sunday, October 19 from 11 am-1 pm)
Deadline – Applications must be submitted no later than October 11.
Parking – State St/2 hr; Municipal Lot/ 3 hr; George’s Flooring Lot/ unlimited
WINDOW PAINTING - Cost $5/window – Register and pick up supplies at George’s Flooring Store, 212 S. State Street.
Neatness –Please be as neat as possible. The success of this event depends on this important issue. Each artist will be assigned a specific space on the outside of a merchant’s window in Newtown’s shopping district. Paint only inside the specified area (merchant will specify)! Paint glass only using the paint provided. Do not paint window trim or the sidewalk. BYOB (Bring Your Own Brushes) and paper towels. Acrylic paint will be used and will stain unprotected surfaces or clothing, so please be careful. Dress accordingly.
Family-friendly theme – Painting must be done freehand and have a family-friendly Fall/Halloween theme or be themed according to the shop’s merchandise or services. Do not paint the background or entire window unless approved by shopowner. Inappropriate paintings will be removed immediately. All paint must be picked up between 9 am and noon and paintings must be completed by 2 p.m.
Windows – Windows are assigned on a first come, first served basis. One window will be assigned to each artist or group. Requests for specific windows may be honored.
Children – Artists under the age of 13 must have adult supervision at all times.
Prizes – Prizes will be awarded for originality in two categories: Group and Adult.
SCARECROW CONTEST - Free
Scarecrow must have a 2”x2” wooden center support. Scarecrows may not touch the ground and must be free standing on the center support. No materials may be on the ground. Scarecrows must be weather-resistant. Do not use perishable goods. Please attach a permanent weatherproof sign on the scarecrow listing its title, category and creator(s). All scarecrows must be registered before October 11. Check-in will be held at George’s Flooring Store, 212 S. State Street, on October 19 from 9 am – noon. Prizes will be awarded for originality in two categories: Group and Adult.
Pick-up – Scarecrows may be picked up only on Saturday, November 9. Scarecrows not removed on this date will be disposed of.
CUPCAKE WARS - Free
Cupcakes should be homemade and presented on a disposable tray/container. Please attach the recipe for the cupcakes and frosting. The theme of the cupcakes should reflect Fall/Halloween (1/2 dozen cupcakes per entrant). There will be two age groups; 6-10 yrs. and 11-16 yrs. Judging will be based on overall taste and presentation. Prizes will be awarded. Please bring your cupcakes to First National Bank on October 18 between 9:00-10:30am. The winners will be announced at 11:45am.
